Saint Peter's Church was built in 1850 and consecrated in 1852. The land had been donated by Leonard Andrus, founder of Grand Detour and original partner of the renowned plow manufacturer, John Deere. The Gothic and Greek Revival structure is the second oldest Episcopal church building in Illinois. As a church it eventually became a chapel of St. L uke's, Dixon, Ill in 1952. The church periodically fell into disrepair and could not be used. During the 1990's the church building went through a complete restoration. In 1998, the building was transferred to the St. Peter's Preservation Committee. The building is no longer an Episcopal Church but still exists and is used as an event location.
