History

The congregation of Christ Church, Limestone was started in 1834. Philander Chase accepted Christ Church into the Diocese of Illinois in 1836 and in 1838 was accepted as a parish. The church building was consecrated in 1845 and the parish remained strong until the early 1900s. By 1924 there ceased to be regular services and by 1937 the church building was in serious disrepair and completely closed. In 1960 there was a move to reopen Christ Church and a congregation was revived as a mission parish in the Diocese of Quincy.

*In 2009 Christ Church left the protestant Episcopal church to join the Anglican Church in North America where it remains to date.
